Though I prefer a melted ice-cream to a frozen one, I can’t say the same about glaciers. Global warming is real, and scary. Climate Kunji, in collaboration with MGNREGA, was envisioned to be a helping tool for residents of villages in Orissa, Chattisgarh, and Jharkhand; a tool that guides them through the many facets of climate change. While global warming is definitely scary, this project’s goal was to communicate it as a problem the villagers can cope with. The script for the video followed the structure of a ‘nukkad naatak’ to ensure relatability and recall. Climate Change was personified and the character of “Bhayanak Babu” was born. Bhayanak Babu carried the characteristics of climate change — unruly, unwelcome, unpredictable. This project remains the closest to my heart. I still find myself singing the Kunji song at random times. Communication for change, big and small, is the need of the hour and a whole lot satisfying to do.
