The Bombay Canteen

Packaging | Launch Campaign

The Bombay Canteen is a café and bar that is Indian at heart. Building off the existing approach of recreation that The Bombay Canteen takes, Please See discovered that traditionally, when Indians used to travel, they carried food wrapped in a cloth parcel called a potli that families would unfold and gather around.

Please See set out to bring back that convention, but kept in mind that meals would need to be packaged in containers that could withstand different modes of transportation. The form envisioned had to be designed from scratch, to meet today’s logistical challenges. After trying different cloth sizes and materials, and engineering a cardboard base for stability and handles for transportation, The Bombay Canteen’s delivery potli was born. Suitable for delivery to offices or homes, the packaging also transformed into a tablecloth for a shared meal.

The extensions and contents of the potli spoke to the people about living “The Aaraam Life”, which translates into encouraging them to take out time to eat their food with ease and enjoy it to the fullest.
